This morning I found fresh blood on some leaves beneath one of our A24 traps. I had been around our trap line the previous day and there was nothing there. There was blood on the two dead leaves and lots of blood spots around on the green leaves. (Click to enlarge the picture) Attachments:

Most likely that a animal reached up with a paw, possum or cat was hit but ofcourse that wouldn't kill it. They have to have a head hit to kill them.

Jim it would be worth placing a camera on your line, perhaps when the Acorn has been repaired. Jean

Hi Jim I think that you got a rat here that has travelled a few metres form the trap. I have found "victims" up to 5 m away (thanks to my little foxys good nose). I think the A24s kill more often than people record, because they don't see the rat / mouse that was killed. Kevin We have some good videos of a possum getting a headache from an A12 trap that I am sure never recovered.

yes Kevin is correct, it is so easy to look under the trap without a proper search a metre around it has happened to me and a dead rat can also become covered in leaves if there is a time gap between checking.
